.Helping Inventors to Protect their Ideas
"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... Such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything.” -Nikola Tesla
Do you have an idea for an invention? If so, then you may want to consider protecting your invention. Here in the United States, when people come up with new inventions they can try to protect them by applying for a patent. A patent gives you the right to exclude others from making, using, and selling your invention. If other people infringe on your invention, you can sue them.
Ways an Inventor Can Monetize a Patent.
- An inventor might bring the patented product to market under the protection of the monopoly created by the patent.
- The inventor may license a patent to another entity for an up front fee, an ongoing royalty or other consideration.
- The inventor may also sell the patent outright. Henry Woodward, for example, sold his original US patent on the light bulb to Thomas Edison who then developed it into a commercially successful product.
